Electronic Banking (E-Banking)
Online
bank transactions over the Internet (e-banking) using PINs and TANs
(personal identification and transaction numbers) are the target of
ever-increasing "phishing" attacks and other methods of identify theft.
The word "phishing" is a combination of the words "password" und "fishing".
It describes a type of data theft in which information such
as passwords and transaction numbers are discovered, possibly
to
be misused. Security analyses have shown that citizen cards
and
electronic
signatures belong to the most secure methods available for carrying
out e-banking today.
Identification with electronic business
An important feature of the citizen card is the electronic identification functionality. It is used by businesses that offer Internet services when they need to know exactly who the customer is. On many Internet web sites today, you need to enter a username and password.
On web sites that already support the citizen card, you can simply use your citizen card to identify yourself, which saves you from having to remember a bunch of username/password combinations. The principle of the citizen card is based on more than just a simple login procedure in which any number of transactions can be carried out. For sensitive transactions, it also provides support for signing content, such as on orders or money transfers, which are then verified on the application server. This ensures that any changes that have been made to the document are detected immediately.
Electronic invoices (eInvoices)
Electronic invoices (eInvoices) with electronic signatures offer security for both the sender and the recipient. It ensures that the data was not tampered with after being transmitted.
In order to keep businesses informed and up-to-date on eInvoices, as well as to prevent problems, for example during a tax audit, the Austrian chamber of commerce has started a broad information offensive on the subject of eInvoices, together with partners in the private sector and government. Their goal is to improve the base of knowledge about the legal scope and practical uses of eInvoices.
