Data Encryption

If you want to ensure confidentiality for your electronic communication, you can encrypt your data. The citizen card enables you to encrypt data that you want to send confidentially, and decrypt data that has been sent to you.

A-SIT has developed a free tool, "Datasafe Citizen Card – Citizen Card Encrypted (CCE)", which allows you to send and to save confidential documents.

Document Signatures (PDF)

If your citizen card has a qualified electronic signature, you can use it to electronically sign legally binding contracts. Electronic signatures fulfil the legal requirements for written signatures. This is also possible in the entire EU community due to cooperative efforts.

The Federal Chancellery has a tool available that makes it possible to sign PDF documents using the citizen card. This tool is used by organisations such as the Centre for Secure Information Technology A-SIT for attaching electronic signatures to correspondence, certificates and official documents.

The tool is offered free-of-charge for installation on a local PC. You can also try it out using the online Web tool.
